A Letter from the Dean

For more than two months, this remarkable community has warmly welcomed my family and me to Saint John’s. In addition, dozens of households have opened their own homes throughout the Denver area to me and to all of you as well. I have had the absolute pleasure of coming to know many of you through the common thread that binds this St. John’s community and communities throughout the world – we have shared meals together. You have welcomed my family to your table, and through that common thread, that shared experience of bounty and comfort, we have become a part of your extended family, Saint John’s.

During this year’s Stewardship Campaign, Saint John’s welcome you to the table. We invite you to taste and see that the Lord is good, and to celebrate the bounty of our shared mission. Like every delightful meal we shared over the last two months, the ingredients and spices of stewardship are both indispensable and inter-reliant. Imagine spaghetti Bolognese without tomato or garlic, pumpkin pie without nutmeg and cinnamon, or chicken biryani without turmeric or curry paste (see the enclosed recipe). You are the ingredients, the spice, of our community and our mission. And it takes all of you, every single one, to contribute to this recipe.

Whether you have pledged for as long as you can remember, or you are new to the idea, please pray about and carefully consider your financial commitment to our mission, our community, our “dish” at the table. Jesus hosted a meal that the Church has made central to its way of being. Just as Jesus welcomes us all to his table, we welcome you to the table at Saint John’s. Until our next meal together, I am, Gratefully yours in Christ,

The Very Reverend Richard Lawson
